CMS Counseling Dept.

Middle school students are characterized by rapid physical growth, curiosity about their world and an emerging self-identity. Middle school counselors have an impact on these years by implementing a school counseling program and collaborating with school staff, parents and the community to create a safe, respectful learning environment whereby young adolescents can maximize personal and academic achievement.

School Counselor

Middle school counselors enhance the learning process and promote academic, career and social/emotional development. School counseling programs are essential for students to achieve optimal personal growth, acquire positive social skills and values, set informed career goals and realize full academic potential to become productive, contributing members of the world community. This is accomplished through working with students individually, in groups and classroom lessons such as the Guidance Class that all students take in Grade 7. In addition, Mrs. Pearce coordinates 504 Accommodation Plans.

Adjustment Counselors

Adjustment counselors serve as liaisons between home, school, local social service agencies or outside therapists. Through individual consultation, small group workshops, and classroom visits our adjustment counselors help students articulate strategies to manage anxiety, stressors and relationships.

School Psychologist

School psychologists provide direct support and interventions to students, consult with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals (i.e., school counselors, school social workers) to improve support strategies, work with school administrators to improve school-wide practices and policies, and collaborate with community providers to coordinate needed services. Our School Psychologist focuses on helping our students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. This is accomplished through individual or small group support as well as conducting and analyzing psycho-social assessments.
