School Nurse

Cohasset Public Schools ask that you please keep your child home if they:

• Have had a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea within the past 24 hrs
• Is being treated for a contagious illness and if on antibiotics, has been treated for a full 24hrs

Please notify the school of your child's absence by calling the school at 781-383-6100.

New District Life Threatening Allergy Protocol

Life Threatening Allergies/EpiPens/Asthma

Life Threatening Allergies

If your child has a life threatening allergy and requires an epinephrine pen (EpiPen) at school, you will need to bring the following into the Health office before your child starts school:

• A Food Allergy Action Plan (FAAN) completed by your physician. A copy of one here:  Food Allergy Action Plan
• Two EpiPens (2 pens, just 1 box) to school to be kept in the Health Office
• Two wallet-sized photos of your child; one for the food allergy action plan and one for the EpiPen box.
• The following completed form: medical release

EpiPens will be kept in the Health Office in the event they are needed.

Asthma

If your child has been diagnosed with Asthma and requires medication, you will need to bring the following into the Health office before your child starts school:

• An inhaler, preferably with a spacer
• An Asthma Action Plan completed by your physician. A copy of one here: Asthma Action Plan
• The following completed form: Medical Release

Head lice are annoying, but they are not dangerous and do not cause disease. 

Schools often see a spike in cases of lice after a school break; such as at the beginning of the year, after the winter holidays, and again after spring break. This is often falsely attributed to a return to school but is actually due to being in the community for an extended period of time; spent at sleepovers, camps, visiting relatives and playdates. 

Symptoms include tickling sensations, itching, and difficulty sleeping.

Social stigma, myths and falsities around lice can lead to misdiagnosis and reluctance to report it. We encourage you to consult the following information below and reach out to your school nurse if you have any questions.
